TAQA Geothermal and Strataphy have formed a strategic partnership to expand geothermal and ground-energy cooling across Saudi Arabia. The collaboration combines project-development capabilities with Strataphy’s PrimeLoop technology as cooling demand rises across industrial, commercial and digital infrastructure.
The companies aim to move geothermal cooling beyond individual installations toward district-scale deployment in the Kingdom.
Partnership Combines Technology and Project Delivery
TAQA Geothermal will contribute project development, commercial structuring and integrated project-management expertise.
Strataphy brings its PrimeLoop geothermal cooling technology, designed to reduce the electricity and water requirements associated with conventional air-conditioning systems.
The collaboration targets applications where cooling represents a significant operational cost, including:
- AI and data centre infrastructure
- Steel manufacturing
- Healthcare facilities
- Poultry operations
- Commercial developments
- Large industrial sites
- District-scale cooling networks

PrimeLoop Targets Electricity and Water Savings
Strataphy says PrimeLoop was designed for commercial deployments capable of cutting cooling electricity consumption significantly while eliminating water consumption in the cooling process.
Saudi Arabia’s climate makes cooling one of the country’s most important energy loads, increasing the value of technologies that can reduce electricity demand without compromising performance.
ThinkGeoEnergy reports that Strataphy has already secured contracts across multiple sectors in Saudi Arabia.
Its deployments include steel manufacturing, hospitals, poultry farms and the King Abdullah Economic City megaproject.
TAQA Builds Wider Geothermal Platform
TAQA Geothermal was established in 2023 as a joint venture between TAQA and Reykjavik Geothermal.
The business was created to explore and develop geothermal opportunities in Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
Its long-term ambition extends beyond conventional geothermal electricity production. The company is also developing direct-use applications capable of using underground thermal resources for cooling and other energy services.
TAQA Geothermal has already participated in drilling a geothermal research well at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, establishing practical subsurface experience in the Kingdom.
Geothermal Cooling Could Support AI Growth
The partnership is particularly relevant as Saudi Arabia expands AI infrastructure and data centre capacity.
High-density computing requires significant cooling capacity, while conventional cooling systems can add substantial electricity and water demand to already power-intensive campuses.
A geothermal cooling platform capable of moving from individual projects into district-scale deployment could therefore address two infrastructure constraints simultaneously.
For TAQA Geothermal and Strataphy, the next strategic challenge will be translating existing pilots and contracts into repeatable commercial projects.
If successful, the partnership could make geothermal cooling an increasingly important part of Saudi Arabia’s broader energy-efficiency and digital-infrastructure strategy.
