Raxio Group has secured more than US$380 million in committed capital to accelerate the expansion of its data centre platform across Africa. The latest funding comes as demand for digital infrastructure surges, driven by rapid cloud adoption, artificial intelligence (AI), and enterprise digital transformation.

Existing investors Roha and Meridiam have increased their equity stakes following a sixfold increase in contracted capacity during the first half of 2026.

The funding package builds on a previous US$350 million capital base and includes a US$100 million financing agreement from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), alongside debt financing from Proparco and the Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF).

Raxio currently operates Tier III-certified, carrier-neutral colocation data centres in Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Angola, while a new facility is under development in Tanzania.

These facilities provide highly reliable infrastructure and enable customers to connect with multiple network providers.

According to McKinsey, Africa’s installed data centre capacity is expected to increase from 0.4GW today to between 1.5GW and 2.2GW by 2030, highlighting the continent’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure needs.

“Demand for high-quality data centre infrastructure continues to accelerate across Africa, driven by rapid digital adoption, cloud migration and the emergence of significant AI workloads,” says

Supporting AI and Hyperscale Growth

The company is witnessing a growing number of customer projects requiring 10MW or larger deployments, reflecting the increasing demand for hyperscale cloud services and AI workloads. To meet these evolving requirements, Raxio is expanding capacity across its existing sites while increasing rack densities to support high-performance computing applications.

“Our continued investment reflects our confidence in Raxio’s management team, strategy and long-term role in enabling Africa’s digital transformation,” says Niyazi Mete Saraçoğlu , COO for Africa at Meridiam.

With continued backing from long-term investors and close collaboration with governments, utilities, network providers, and cloud companies, Raxio aims to strengthen Africa’s digital ecosystem and play a leading role in the continent’s digital transformation.
