Envision Launches 2GW Green AI Data Centre Campus in Ulanqab, China

Envision Energy has commissioned its Galaxy Campus in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, a 120,000-square-metre AI supercomputing facility designed to scale beyond 2GW of capacity. The project combines gigawatt-scale computing infrastructure with dedicated renewable power to support increasingly energy-intensive AI workloads.

At full build-out, the campus is designed to deliver one million PFLOPS of AI computing and accommodate up to one million AI accelerators.

2GW Campus Targets Million-Accelerator Scale

Envision is positioning the Galaxy Campus around high-density AI computing, with the facility designed to generate up to 10 times more compute output per square metre than conventional data centres.

Renewable Power Built Around AI Infrastructure

Rather than treating electricity supply as an external constraint, Envision has integrated energy infrastructure directly into the campus design.

The system combines dedicated renewable generation, transmission infrastructure, large-scale energy storage and Envision’s proprietary AI Power System.

“Supporting a million accelerators requires a purpose-built AI Power System that integrates renewable generation, dedicated transmission infrastructure and large-scale energy storage to deliver stable, low-cost green power,” says Ricky Zheng, General Manager of Envision’s AIDC.

Ulanqab Combines Connectivity and Renewable Energy

Ulanqab has developed into a major digital infrastructure hub, while the region’s wind and solar resources support Envision’s renewable-powered approach.

“The next frontier of AI is infrastructure,” Zheng says, highlighting power availability, network performance and energy efficiency as increasingly important constraints as AI models become larger and more compute-intensive.

Mission Gobi Targets 5GW by 2030

The Galaxy Campus is the first flagship development under Envision’s Mission Gobi initiative, unveiled at VivaTech in Paris in June 2026.

Mission Gobi targets 5GW of green AI computing capacity in desert and arid regions worldwide by 2030, with Ulanqab serving as the first demonstration of the model.

The project illustrates Envision’s strategy of bringing AI compute, renewable generation and power infrastructure together at gigawatt scale, creating a blueprint for expanding energy-intensive AI infrastructure where renewable resources can support long-term growth.
